E J Curtis animal artist and illustrator

I am mostly a self taught artist and illustrator, having graduated with a BSc. from the Open University. The painting really grew from my love of decorative crafts, and I have taken printmaking classes and gained a diploma with distinction in Pet Portraiture, from London Art College. The main focus of my work has been pet portraits but I have recently begun to branch out into illustration. I enjoy the challenges of using different media.

I live on a smallholding in Norfolk with a mad assortment of dogs, chickens, ducks, sheep, guinea pigs and a hairy horse. I find animals endlessly fascinating and inspiring. I guess you could say I have a cartoonists eye for character, a trait I am hoping to develop through my illustrations, and writing, about all my animal friends. My dream would be to one day produce my own picture books. I believe art at it's best should offer a glimpse into another world.
